Legislators

Milledgeville was the capital of Georgia from 1807 to 1868. These four men (Horatio Webb, James Thompson, Nathaniel Bradford, and Jacob Hentz) were members of the state legislature when it was in Milledgeville. They died in the 1840s before the coming of the railroad and were unable to be shipped home for burial. Remember - there was no air conditioning or refrigeration in those days!

Their graves are marked by marble "box tombs" or "box graves." These are markers only and the body is underground.
